Board of Appeal & Equalization Meeting Minutes 

City of Porter 

April 21, 2026, 6:00 p.m. 

 

 

Mayor Donald Verschelde called the 2026 Local Board of Appeal & Equalization meeting for the City of Porter to order. 

 

Council members present were Kim Jelen, Donald Verschelde, Pat Vlaminck, Craig Petersen, and Josh Sumption.   

 

Also present were Brian Rosenau, Yellow Medicine County Auditor/Treasurer, Chad Doose & Jakob Erickson, assessors for the City of Porter with Yellow Medicine County. 

Also present was Nancy Bormann. 

 

Reviewed the following: County Staff reported that the city will see a 5% valuation increase.  Apartment buildings county wide saw an increase.  The city will need to look at its rural service district tax rate to be current with state laws. 

 

Nancy brought forward a concern regarding a valuation increase at the Countryside Apartment building.  The increase was discussed.  A motion was made by Josh Sumption, seconded by, Pat Vlaminck and based on the data provided the City upholds the assessed evaluation.  All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried. 

 

A motion was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Josh Sumption to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
