Fire Contract Meeting Minutes 

City of Porter 

February 2, 2026 

  

Mayor Donald Verschelde called the 2026 fire contract meeting to order. 

 

Council members present were Donald Verschelde, Josh Sumption, Craig Peterson, Judy Verschelde, and Pat Vlaminck.  Fire Chief, Lawrence Petersen. 

 

Those present representing the townships were Ryan Westphal, Mark Pesek, Faith Olson, and Jeff Claeys.   

 

Discussed that there were no major capital purchases for the year; the fire department has twenty-five rostered members; purchased two new sets of turnout gear in 2025. 

 

Fire contract rates for 2026 were discussed.  A Jaws of Life was purchased in 2026 for $15,000 which we be included in next year’s report.  The fire department is looking at purchasing a decent used tanker and they are in the range of $80,000. 

 

A motion was made by Craig Petersen, seconded by Pat Vlaminck to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
