Regular City Council Meeting Minutes

City of Porter

January 4, 2021 6:30 p.m.

 

Meeting called to order by Proxy Mayor, Josh Sumption.

 

Council members present were Kim Jelen, Donald Verschelde, Josh Sumption, Pat Vlaminck, Craig Petersen, and Judy Verschelde. 

 

The following elected officials took their oath of office:  Mayor: Donald Verschelde, Councilperson: Pat Vlaminck; and Clerk: Kim Jelen.

 

Mayor Donald Verschelde called for the reading of the minutes of the December 7, 2020,  Regular City Council meeting.  Minutes were approved as read in a motion by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Craig Petersen. All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.

 

A motion was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Craig Petersen to designate the State Bank of Taunton, Canby Credit Union, & First Independent Bank as the official depositors, Canby News as the official newspaper, Josh Sumption as the proxy for mayor, Gerald Boulton as the attorney for the City, and Taunton as the official pound.  All were in favor with none opposed, the motion was carried.

 

Due to the continued pandemic, notification will be sent out to the townships to let them know that the city council will not be holding a fire contract meeting this year.

 

The Porter Fire Relief donated $7,000.00 to the City of Porter.  A motion was made by Josh Sumption, seconded by Craig Petersen this money to the fire equipment fund.  All were in favor with none opposed, the motion was carried.

 

A motion was made by Kim Jelen, seconded by Josh Sumption for a Voluntary Contribution to the Statewide Volunteer Firefighter Retirement Plan of $5,000.00 for 2021.  All were in favor with none opposed, the motion was carried.

 

339,000 gallons of water were used. 

 

A motion was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Craig Petersen, to approve update to the City Ordinance 2003-2 Schedule of Fees.  All were in favor with none opposed, the motion was carried.

 

Craig Petersen made a motion to pay the bills as read.  Josh Sumption seconded the motion.  All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.

 

A motion was made by Craig Petersen, seconded by Pat Vlaminck, to adjourn the meeting.  All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
