Josh and Porterites, It was great fun to celebrate the 125th at Porter. We are sorry that we did not have more of the History Books. It was a DIY project and the amount of copying to make more books was just too time-consuming and expensive. If you want a book and know of someone who is willing to share theirs and let you take it apart, you are welcome to make copies for yourself. It was great to visit with so many of the "old-timers". If you have history that you would like to share about the town or your family, I would love to receive it. Their might just be a sequel to the book. My dad's sister Sadie Rassmussen was a long time resident of rural Porter and well known in the area. When I used to travel the area for business I would contact Sadie and we would have lunch, usually in Marshall. However one trip out there I stopped by her house and we had lunch in Porter. She claims people in town were wondering who she was having lunch with and she told them I was from the IRS. I am certain the people of the commnunity were familar and Sadie was probably consider to have a lot of character.

Hello to all. I was born on a farm just east of Porter in 1936. We moved to 'town' when I was four. My father Carl Nomeland worked at the Porter Bank (I think it was a branch of the Canby Bank), and my mother Beatrice worked at the telephone exchange. Porter is an impressive place, with great guys at the Co-op and great food at Arlene's.

I had a great childhood while living in Porter. The area farmers were so lucky at that time to have Dean, Danny, and myself working for them. We prayed for rain all the time so that we could go fishing.
