YES - Definitely Beneficial! I think whatever is most cost effective would be best. This building is used quite a bit and I think if the bathrooms and kitchen were in better condition - it would get even more use!

As for "fixing up the hall" . . . I think it is beyond fixing at this point. The reason it doesn't get used very much is because it is a very very bad building and not somewhere I, or many people for that matter, would want to celebrate anything. It is not suited for gatherings anymore. The town could benefit from the profits of a new hall since there isn't a big hall in Canby or the surrounding areas that people use for weddings or graduations anymore.

Opinion

I had my wedding dance in the Hall many years ago and I think it badly needs at least a renovation. If it had any particular architectural interest I'd say keep it, but it would probably be cheaper and more efficient to just start over. I agree that a nice hall with good kitchen facilities and air conditioning would get a lot of business from the surrounding area.

Opinion

I think that the hall should be torn down and have a new one built. The new one in Clear Lake is getting all of the dances from around our area. None of Canby's are air conditioned and that makes a huge difference on where people have wedding dances. The new hall could also have Christmas and Graduation parties. This town needs something and I feel this is the perfect opportunity and time to do so.

I lived in Porter my whole life up to Graduation. I would be sad to find out they torn the Town Hall down. Renovate would be better, let us save some of our History. I think it would benefit the town greatly for gatherings and get togethers.

I am of the younger genereation of people who live and grew up in Porter, MN and I think that if we tear down and rebuild the Porter Hall, the town would have the opportunity to make money on the deal. There are very few if any places in Canby and the surrounding small towns to have wedding dances and such, so if Porter makes a really nice place, not just update our old building with the horrendous bathrooms, to have occasions like this, then we could present ourselves with the option to make money on this to benefit our town.

I was in Stockholm SD for a family reunion three years ago. I think you could compare the two towns. They have a new town hall there. I was envious. Their town hall does not smell like urine, but of course it is new. I have lived in the area 45 plus years and I think it is time to tear it down and replace it with something new. My memories of the Porter town hall are fond ones but every time I drive by the structure I wonder why the city has not tore the musty and moldy old building down and built a new one in its place. Take some pictures of the old building and have them displayed in the new one. It sounds like the grant money is available for the City of Porter. GO FOR IT!
