Porter's 125th Anniversary Harvest Festival

All questions and answers are for entertainment purposes only and do not qualify as research or polling data.

Question: I'm sure the 125th Harvest Festival planning is well on its way already, but does anyone have any ideas that would make this year's festival unforgettable?

What activities other then 3 on 3 do you have for the kids? I heard you were not having the kids games this year because you can't get anyone to work at them. How about face painting or kids crafts or a person making animal balloons. Maybe one of those big blown up jumperoos that the kids can go in,or pony rides. I understand that the street dance is going to be by the bar again this year so the kids will have to leave by 10:00pm. So how about having a stero with cds at the shelter in the park & the kids can make there own dance, of course with adult chaparones. There is tug of war, sack races, water balloon fights. This is just a few ideas.

Maybe an update of what's been planned should be put in the Canby paper. Lots of good ideas are being contributed in this public opinion! Is this information reaching anyone on the Porter Harvest Festival Committee??? Maybe a flyer in the mailboxes to let every resident know what's being planned. Some people aren't able to get to the local businesses to read posters on the walls. The more advertising...the more people will be brought to this great event.

We would like to create a "Book of Memories" that people could contribute to. Anyone who would like to submit a memory may send them to my e-mail address: rrb41350@yahoo.com. My sister, LaNetta (Goslar) VanDale, and I, Rhonda (Goslar) Bates are willing to work on this project. We will advertise this project in the Cafe and the Senior Center, so that anyone without a computer can submit a memory via a letter that will be sent to us at our addresses from the flyer. Any memories would be appreciated, also opinions and suggestions. Let's make this a fun book of memories for the City of Porter. Thank you. Is there going to be a parade for the 125th Harvest Festival?

At the Centennial Celebration I remember a "Time Capsule" being buried diagonally across the intersection from the fire hall. Are there plans to dig it up and open it at the 125th? I remember that was the intention back then.

I think you should give the "Lone Tree" Mural a make-over. A fresh coat of paint would be nice. Porter Rules!!

I think we should have the street dance next to the baseball field on the street by the concession stand. That way, either the beer garden could take care of the drinks, or the bar could also set up there and have it fenced off or something like that. Just a thought. That place would allow for more room if we are able to get a band for the event.

I have a couple of ideas...good, bad, other...that I'll submit for possible activities and such. How about a 125th logo contest. I'm sure we have a few artists out there. Sell T-shirts with the logo. Make posters/signs with the logo for display in local businesses here and in Canby to inform the communities of the big event. A parade would be cool. We would enjoy riding our horse in a local Porter parade! How about a community photo of all the Porter residents past and present taken at the ballfield one of the days. Who knows, maybe t-shirts could be made down the road with that on them. Also I think a veggie contest/display with all the locally grown produce on display at the hall would be fun. Like the tallest corn stalk, or the biggest potato, etc. A person could just have a ticket to fill out and then display it with their item on a table of their choosing. Probably wouldn't even need anyone there to supervise, just have a big poster with the directions for the displayers. I love going to car shows...maybe a cruise night??? Put the basketball court to use with some b/b games. I loved the idea of the street dance last year, but it was really just a dance outside at the bar. I had psyched up my kids for a street dance that they weren't welcome at after 10:00. I went home with my kids and listened to the booming music and loud people and wasn't able to join in because it wasn't kid friendly. Is there any way to swing a "real" street dance? I don't think it would take away the business from the bar. People would still go to the bar that wanted to be there. Or how about tractor pulls? I remember going to one a few years ago in Porter and it was fun. Maybe hay rides around Porter for the children. If any locals would volunteer a couple hours one day for that. Like during the ball games or something. And who doesn't like a dunk tank? Especially if you know who's sitting in it! Could have that going on at any other event as a sideshow type thing. I hope this helps. I haven't seen any other ideas posted, so I thought I'd put in my ideas...good, bad, or other.
