Contract Meeting Minutes
City of
Porter
Monday, February 7, 2011, 7:30 p.m.
Mayor
Donald Verschelde called the 2010 fire contract meeting to order.
Council
members present were Eric Dybsetter, Kim Jelen, Darlene Moeller, Donald
Verschelde, Judy Verschelde, and Pat Vlaminck.
Present
representing the Porter Fire Department was Larry Stoks.
Those
present representing townships were Kevin Swedzinski, Lee Dritz and Leonard
Drietz of Alta Vista Township, Faith Olsen and John Cornell of Marble
Township, Bob Thielges of Norman Township, and Ralph Jelen of Wergeland
Township.
Larry
Stoks discussed the expenses of the Porter Fire Department in 2010.
It was noted that since 2009 a fire truck was purchased and the fire
hall was expanded. In recent
months a 6X6 Polaris Ranger was placed into service for fighting grass
fires.
Fire
contract rates for 2010 were discussed.
The City of Porter is maintaining the cost per section at $125.
The fire
equipment assessment was also discussed.
The City of Porter purchased a brand new pumper truck in 2010 at a
cost of $175,000. The city
received a USDA grant to cover $75,000, and financed the remaining $100,000
with a 15 year USDA loan.
The city
is assessing the townships $70 per section for 15 years to help defray the
cost of the truck purchase.
Larry
Stoks and Pat Vlaminck led a tour of the fire hall and answered questions
about fire fighting and rescue equipment.
A motion
was made to adjourn the meeting.
All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
