Regular City Council Meeting Minutes
City of
Porter
Monday,
January 4, 2010,
6:30 p.m.
Mayor
Donald Verschelde called the regular city council meeting to order.
Council
members present were Eric Dybsetter, Kim Jelen, Donald Verschelde, Judy
Verschelde, and Pat Vlaminck.
Larry
Stoks was also present.
Mayor
Donald Verschelde called for the reading of the minutes of the December 7, 2009 City Council meeting.
Minutes were approved as read in a
motion by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Kim Jelen. All were in favor with none
opposed, and the motion was carried.
Eric
Dybsetter presented preliminary fire contracts and preliminary fire
equipment assessment agreements to the council for changes or approval.
Changes were discussed, and final versions were agreed upon.
Eric Dybsetter will create a spreadsheet to track township payments
towards the equipment assessment.
The 2010
fire contract meeting was set for Tuesday, 02/02/2010 at 7:00
p.m. Eric Dybsetter
will send invitations to township boards.
A motion
was made by Eric Dybsetter, seconded by Donald Verschelde, to designate The
State Bank of Taunton,
Wells Fargo, and First Independent Bank as the official depositors, Canby
News as the official newspaper, Kim Jelen as the proxy for mayor, Gerald
Boulton as the attorney for the City, and Canby as the official pound. All
were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
A motion
was made by Kim Jelen, seconded by Pat Vlaminck to donate $5000 to the
Fireman’s Relief Association retirement fund.
All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
A planned
expansion of the Porter Elevator was discussed.
There was some concern about truck traffic on 4-ton city streets,
especially on South Prairie
Avenue.
It was mentioned that tax abatement may be requested.
409,000
gallons of water were used in December.
Larry finished discharging the ponds in December.
The city needs a new DNR permit for the well.
Larry
asked about having SMI make a safety grate and new access cover for the lift
station, to avoid an accident while taking water samples.
The council authorized Larry to have such a cover built.
Larry
requested the city become members of the Rural Water Association.
Membership provides training as well as technical assistance.
The council authorized membership.
Kim Jelen
made a motion to pay the bills as read by Judy Verschelde.
Pat Vlaminck seconded the motion.
All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
A motion
was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Kim Jelen, to adjourn the meeting.
All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
