Regular City Council Meeting Minutes
City of
Porter
Monday,
April 6, 2009,
7:30 p.m.
Mayor
Donald Verschelde called the regular city council meeting to order.
Council
members present were Eric Dybsetter, Kim Jelen, Darlene Moeller, Donald
Verschelde, Judy Verschelde, and Pat Vlaminck.
Also
present were Larry Stoks, Mike Wente, and Ken Hennen.
Mayor
Donald Verschelde called for the reading of the minutes of the March 2, 2009 City Council meeting.
Minutes were approved as read in a
motion by Kim Jelen, seconded by Pat Vlaminck. All were in favor with none
opposed, and the motion was carried.
Mike
Wente presented the council with a bill for installing flooring in the north
addition of the hall. The new
flooring is very nice, and the city thanks Mike and Mary Wente, Larry Stoks,
Cory Stoks, Gary VanHyfte, and anyone else who helped with the installation.
The city also thanks Friends of the Porter Hall for their
fund-raising efforts.
Mike
Wente asked if the city would apply some oil to the gravel parking lot
between the Cut Loose and the café for dust control.
Larry Stoks will look into this.
The city
received lawn mowing bids from Serenity Landscapes and from Linda Hennen.
The bids were read. Pat
Vlaminck made a motion to award the mowing of all city parcels to Serenity
Landscapes as the low bidder.
Darlene Moeller seconded the motion, all were in favor with none opposed,
and the motion was carried.
Pat
Vlaminck reported that the fire department had received a $4000 grant for
fire department training from the state of
Minnesota.
A new
fire truck, fire hall addition, and fire contract rates for 2010 were
discussed. A motion was made by
Kim Jelen, seconded by Darlene Moeller, to set the 2010 fire contract rate
at $125 per section plus a $70 per section assessment for the new truck, for
a total of $195 per section. All
were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
Pat
Vlaminck reported that he had attended an informational meeting in Canby
about the possible community development grant.
Discussion followed.
Larry
Stoks reported on the city water system.
Test results from the bacterial and influent samples were good.
346,000 gallons were used in the month of March.
The lift station is currently not working properly.
Larry and Pat will check on this.
The city
reminds residents to not flush pharmaceuticals down the toilet or pour them
down the drains. The addition of
these compounds to our water supply can harm wildlife.
Pat
Vlaminck made a motion for all of the City of
Porter
accounts at the State Bank of
Taunton
to list signors as the current mayor, clerk, and treasurer.
Kim Jelen seconded the motion, all were in favor with none opposed,
and the motion was carried.
Kim Jelen
made a motion to pay the bills as read by Judy Verschelde.
Darlene Moeller seconded the motion, all were in favor with none
opposed, and the motion was carried.
A motion
was made by Kim Jelen, seconded by Darlene Moeller, to adjourn the meeting.
All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
