Board
of Appeal and Equalization Meeting Minutes
City of
Porter
Monday,
April 6, 2009,
6:30 p.m.
Mayor
Donald Verschelde called the 2009 meeting of the local board of appeal and
equalization for the City of Porter
to order.
Council
members present were Eric Dybsetter, Kim Jelen, Darlene Moeller, Donald
Verschelde, Judy Verschelde, and Pat Vlaminck.
Also
present were Connie Erickson, Yellow Medicine County Auditor / Treasurer,
Dave Parsons, assessor for the City of
Porter, Pauline Benson, Nancy Bormann, and Ken
Hennen.
Connie
Erickson gave an overview of valuation of property in Porter.
Pauline
Benson asked about large increases in the valuation of bare lots.
Connie Erickson explained that 3 recent sales of lots indicate that
the market value of lots was much higher than previously assessed.
As a result, the recent valuations were increased from about $0.07
per square foot in 2006 to about $0.20 per square foot in 2008.
Nancy
Bormann questioned the valuation of the apartment building.
Connie Erickson explained that the valuation was based on rental
rates and vacancy rates reported to the county previously.
Ken
Hennen questioned the solid waste fee imposed on his lot with a Quonset hut
but no water or sewer. Connie
Erickson explained that the fee is to fund county wide recycling and
hazardous materials disposal, and is assess to all property.
After
discussion, the board decided to not adjust any valuations.
A motion
was made by Kim Jelen, seconded by Darlene Moeller, to adjourn the meeting.
All were in favor with none opposed, and the motion was carried.
Eric D.
Dybsetter, Clerk
