of the City of Porter
Regular Council Meeting
Monday, January 7, 2008
6:30 p.m.
Mayor Donald Verschelde called the regular city council
meeting to order.
Those present were Bonnie Olson, Kim Jelen, Donald
Verschelde, Pat Vlaminck, Judy Verschelde and Darlene Moeller. Also present
were Larry Stoks, Tom Noyes and Dan Dybsetter.
Mayor Donald Verschelde called for the reading of the
minutes of the December 3, 2007 City Council meeting. Minutes were approved
as read in a motion by Darlene Moeller, seconded by Kim Jelen. All in favor
– no one opposed.
Mayor Donald Verschelde called for the reading of the
special council meeting on December 17, 2007. Minutes were approved in a
motion made by Kim Jelen, seconded by Pat Vlaminck. All in favor, no one
opposed.
The Fireman’s Relief Association made a donation of
$14,000 to the City of Porter with $7,000 earmarked for the Porter Hall and
$7,000 for the equipment fund.
A donation was made by SMI and Hydraulics for the material
and labor for the hand rail and bathroom stalls at the Porter Hall.
Olson Sanitation will increase the garbage rate as of
January 1, 2008.
A motion was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Kim Jelen
to raise the garbage rate by 5%. All in favor, no one opposed. This will be
effective on the January 1, 2008 billing.
A motion was made by Kim Jelen, seconded by Pat Vlaminck
to enter into the Worthless Check Program Agreement. All in favor, no one
opposed.
The Planning and Zoning board needs to update the
utilities requirements.
A motion was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Darlene
Moeller to designate The State Bank of Taunton, Wells Fargo and First
Independent Bank as the official depositors, Canby News as the official
newspaper, Kim Jelen as the proxy for mayor, Gerald Boulton as the attorney
for the City, and Canby as the official pound. All in favor, no one opposed.
The Fireman’s Contract Renewal meeting will be held on
Tuesday, February 5th at 7:00 p.m. This meeting will be held at the Porter
Fire Hall.
A motion was made by Darlene Moeller, seconded by Pat
Vlaminck to increase the compensation for all fire services from $115.00 to
$120.00 per section. All in favor, no one opposed.
A motion was made by Kim Jelen, seconded by Darlene
Moeller to donate $5000 to the Fireman’s Relief Association retirement fund.
All in favor, no one opposed.
Larry Stoks gave the water report. There were 924,000
gallons used. The lift station latch will be repaired. The signs are
finished, and will be posted at the ponds. The secondary ponds have been
discharged. An influent sample has been taken.
A motion was made by Pat Vlaminck, seconded by Kim Jelen
to pay the bills as read. All in favor, no one opposed.
A motion was made by Kim Jelen, seconded by Darlene
Moeller to adjourn the meeting. All in favor, no one opposed.
